Student Elected as Lewisham's Deputy Young Mayor
Haberdashers' Aske's Knights Academy student Nike Ajijola has been elected deputy young mayor in Lewisham’s fifteenth young mayor elections.
Election Day was held on 17 October with polling stations at schools and youth centres across the borough, whilst young people who don't attend school or college in the borough were able to register for a postal vote. The young mayor received 1,429 first preference votes whilst the deputy young mayor polled 1,249. After the second round of counting Adam finished on 1,981 votes, ahead of Nike on 1,807.
Nike is a current Year 10 pupil, and has demonstrated her drive and commitment to beat 32 other candidates to the position of deputy young mayor. Dr. Tesca Bennett, Executive Principal at Knights said ‘We are so incredibly proud of Nike achieving this prestigious and influential position within Lewisham. Nike is a talented pupil, and has shown her passion to support the local community. We know that she will want to give young people an authentic voice across the borough’.
Nike is an inspiration to her fellow pupils and staff at Haberdashers’ Aske’s Knights Academy and we look forward to seeing her and the newly elected Young Mayor work together to drive forward their campaigns for the young people of Lewisham.
