Art
Curriculum IntentThe Art and Design curriculum aims to help pupils appreciate and critique the artistic and visual world. It covers a range of media, techniques, and artists at KS3 to prepare pupils for GCSE. At KS4, pupils work independently and creatively, drawing on their skills and knowledge of others' work. The arts foster passion and reflection, as well as the use of formal elements such as line, shape, tone, colour, and composition.
At Knights Academy, we offer three different GCSE courses: fine art, 3D design, and photography. In art, pupils experiment with a range of different media and processes, including painting, printmaking, and sculpture. Model-making and ceramics are key areas for pupils studying 3D design. In photography, pupils learn how to use cameras as a tool for expressing their point of view.
All three subjects are underpinned by the study of art history and contemporary practitioners. We also provide opportunities to visit various art and design institutions as part of the course. Careers and OpportunitiesThe Creative industries are the third biggest industry in the UK. Students studying Art can go on to work in the professional sectors below:
Several students have completed work experience in the department as Art technicians. Students are encouraged to explore apprenticeship opportunities with the BBC, The National Theatre and the Royal Opera House.
