Curriculum Intent

Our Curriculum Intent for Business & Economics is to provide a first class education provision to all students to allow the creation of the very best business men/women of the next generation.

With Business & Economics, pupils will develop their knowledge and understanding of business concepts, whilst viewing these from a local, national and international perspective. They will also develop their employability skills and attributes through the development of interactive learning. This will allow the students to reach their full potential.

The curriculum is designed to cater for a wide range of academic and vocational students.

Cross Curriculum and Skills

Business & Economics teaching underpins the pedagogy that teaches students how to think, learn, solve problems and make informal and formal decisions in the business scenarios that are given.

The general skills that will be covered across the Business & Economics curriculum include:

  • guidance and feedback

  • analysis of business concepts and data

  • evaluation and recommendation

  • leadership qualities

  • application of the theory to practice with given case studies

The Business & Economic curriculum makes links to a number of different subjects that students will study from other departments. Some examples of links are noted below:

Mathematics: the use of data figure to come to judgements and illustration of statistics

Geography: the link between globalisation and the impact on businesses and local people

English: reading, writing - especially for extended written responses

Psychology: consumer behaviour

Sociology: trends in society

Why Study Business Studies at GCSE and A' Level?

The courses are designed to encourage candidates to consider the practical application of business and economic concepts. Within the courses, you will have the opportunity to explore real business issues and how businesses work; there will also be the opportunity to study business decision making techniques and how businesses can deal with the expenditure

These courses will make you aware of how businesses operate and conduct business. You will explore how businesses operate in a global capacity. Always as looking how growing businesses are able to grow and compete with the multi-national corporations.

On the courses, you will be able to develop an understanding of many key business concepts such as marketing, finance and human resources as well as many other business key terms.

There will be many opportunities to help develop transferable skills which can be used in all disciplines such as decision making, problem solving as well as analytical and evaluation skills which allows you to come up with recommendations for the given business scenario.
